Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has stated the importance of an EU membership prospect for Ukraine.

“The Ukrainians have passed one of the most difficult examinations in their life, seeking to become a member of the European Union. We have never enjoyed such a level of support in the world and in Europe and it would simply be impolite to deny us the prospect of membership,” he said at the 11th meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES) conference in Kyiv on Sept. 12.

The chief of state also called necessary the introduction of a new global security strategy. Euro-Atlantic partners of Ukraine realize that “a struggle for global security is in progress,” he said.

Poroshenko expressed the hope that Ukraine would soon acquire a special status in cooperation with NATO.
