RIGA – Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that over the past 24 hours Kyiv has managed to improve the draft final declaration of the Eastern Partnership summit which opened in Riga on May 21.

“I can tell you that we were able to improve much over the past night and this morning. The foreign minister [Pavlo Klimkin], [Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration] Valeriy Chaly, our mission to the EU has worked hard and a declaration is always a compromise. But there certain things which we are not ready to compromise,” he said at a meeting with civil society activists in Riga on May 21.

He said that the tough and critical comments to the draft declaration, which appeared in the press on the eve the summit, are not what Ukraine needs.
