Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will offer the Verkhovna Rada this week a bill of amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine on the decentralization of power, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov has said.

“I had a conversation with the president of our country, Petro Poroshenko, and we agreed that he would initiate this week proposals on constitutional reform. The issue concerns the decentralization of power in Ukraine. His legislative initiative will be here,” he said at a meeting of the parliament’s conciliatory council in Kyiv on Monday, June 16.

Turchynov also said that the deputy factions would be able to examine the proposed changes in the near future.

In addition, Turchynov said the Ukrainian parliament would debate a bill on the protection of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine on Tuesday, June 17.

“There is a proposal to begin tomorrow’s meeting with a debate and the adoption of a decree on measures to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country and prevent Russian aggression,” Turchynov said, adding that a draft decree to this effect will be ready by Tuesday.
