You're reading: Poroshenko: Ukrainian gas market should be cleaned up from corruption

Lawmaker Petro Poroshenko has said that the Ukrainian gas market should be made transparent.

“Gas supplies and the fuel and energy sector were always the most corrupted sector of the Ukrainian economy. Today this is a point of honor to clean up the gas market from corruption,” he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday, March 5.

Poroshenko said that only after this Ukraine will know the real needs of the country in natural gas and the fair price of gas supplied from Russia.

The lawmaker is confident that gas should not be a factor of political pressure on Ukraine.

“It doesn’t matte what the price of gas will be: if it is very high, Russia will lose the Ukrainian market very quickly,” he said.
