You're reading: Poroshenko: Ukrainian military control over 60 populated areas in eastern Ukraine

The Ukrainian troops have taken over 60 populated areas in eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said during a meeting with defense, security and law enforcement officials on July 31.

“Over sixty populated areas have been liberated. The 72nd and 79th brigades and other our units are being unblocked along the border,” the presidential administration said on Twitter.

Poroshenko also noted that Ukrainian military were fulfilling these tasks “despite fierce resistance of terrorists, artillery shelling from Russia, and new attempts of penetration.”

The president also stressed the need to minimize losses among personnel and ensure the protection of civilians.

Poroshenko generally praised the recent changes in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
