BRUSSELS – President of the European People's Party Wilfried Martens has called for the protests during the Euro 2012 European Football Championship in Ukraine.

According to Belgian media, Martens will not call for boycotting, but will urge the politicians who will go to Ukraine, to use every possibility to improve the situation with human rights, and ask for and demand a meeting with former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko in prison.

According to the EPP president, as a result of politically motivated trial Tymoshenko was sentenced to seven years in prison, and the reports of human rights organizations (referring to former commissioner for human rights Nina Karpachova) say that she is maltreated in prison.
