You're reading: Press secretary denies medical examination of Tymoshenko

The press secretary of Ukraine's ex-prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko, Maryna Soroka, has refuted the report by the Ukrainian State Penitentiary Service that the ex-premier underwent a physical and laboratory examination at a clinical hospital in Kharkiv, which included magnetic resonance imaging, spiral computed tomography, and blood test.

According to a report posted on the Web site of the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko, the ex-premier, who is held at Kachanivska penal colony in Kharkiv, has given her consent to a medical examination by independent doctors offered by the Canadian government, but she will never accede to undergo medical experiments conducted by medical personnel, who are completely dependent on the authorities, and arranged by the presidential administration.

"Yulia Tymoshenko has not been examined by doctors whom she trusts, she had no blood test done, so what a ‘necessary medical care’ are they talking about?" Soroka said.

"Even medicine students would not make an approximate diagnosis and offer treatment. It is surprising that qualified doctors are doing this. But those who make political diagnoses and provide treatment upon recommendations of the Bankova (Street) have long stained their white medical gowns," the press secretary said.

Offering medical fitness to the ex-prime minister, who is currently unable to move unaided, is "Jesuitism," she said.

"It is a pity that the authorities are turning the Health Care Ministry, an institution that is supposed to be concerned with health care problems, into an organization that is more akin to a PR-agency… The authorities failed to destroy Yulia Tymoshenko politically, the whole world has recognized the contractual nature of the persecution of the opposition leader, which is why they are now trying to implement a scenario of physical destruction by denying qualified medical aid to Yulia Tymoshenko," Soroka said.

Earlier the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine said that on Saturday, January 7, Tymoshenko underwent a physical and laboratory examination at a clinic hospital in Kharkiv, which included Magnetic Resonance Tomography, Spiral Computed Tomography, and a hematology test, and were carried out at the ex-prime minister’s request.

"The results of the examination conducted confirm the previous conclusions made by the commission of the Ukrainian Health Care Ministry. Tymoshenko does not appear to have any diseases that require additional treatment. It should also be noted that with Tymoshenko’s consent one of the Ministry’s laboratories conducted a hematology test of her blood, the results of which do not go beyond normal," the statement said.

Earlier the Health Care Ministry said that on Friday Tymoshenko refused from the offered medical examination and medical fitness.
