Yulia Tymoshenko has resigned from the post of prime minister of Ukraine, Tymoshenko's press secretary Maryna Soroka has said.
"The prime minister has not gone on leave – she has resigned," Soroka told Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday, commenting on a statement by deputy head of presidential administration Hanna Herman that Yulia Timoshenko’s vacation will cost Ukraine around Hr 20,000.
The press secretary described this statement as untrue.
Ukraine’s Acting Vice-Premier Hryhoriy Nemyria said at a press conference on Thursday that Acting Premier Yulia Tymoshenko was on a short-term leave.
The media liaisons office of the government’s secretariat said on Thursday that First Vice Premier Oleksandr Turchynov had been empowered to fulfill the premier’s duties until a new government is formed.
Ukraine’s parliament ousted Tymoshenko’s government in a vote of no confidence on March 3.
