You're reading: Protesters detained in Sumy regional administration building, police do not use force

The police did not use force against the protesters who seized a wing of the Sumy regional administration's building but some of the lawbreakers were detained, the Sumy regional police department's public relations office said.

A criminal case was opened after the illegal takeover of the lobby of
the Sumy Regional Council’s conference hall and the police asked
activists of Sumy Euromaidan to leave the building.

“Most protesters met the demand. Those trying to resist the police
were taken into custody. Helmets and clubs were seized from them,” the
report said.

The public relations office of the Sumy regional police said earlier
that a group of people built a barricade of sacks filled with snow at
the entrance to the administrative building on Sunday in order to
prevent City Hall and administration members from reporting for work on
Monday.

A criminal case was opened under Part 2, Article 341 of the Ukrainian
Criminal Code “Seizure of State Public Buildings or Facilities.”
