You're reading: Prydniprovska Railways to acquire 40 new electric locomotives in 2012

Prydniprovska Railways (Dnipropetrovsk) is planning in 2012 to acquire 40 new VL11M/6 electric locomotives, the press service of the Infrastructure Ministry has said.

According to the report, in addition, the railways plans to overhaul 55 units of rolling stock, including 17 ChS2 electric locomotives, 11 ChMEZ diesel locomotives, 20 VL11M electric locomotives, five ChS7 electric locomotives, and two VL8 electric locomotives.

Over the first eleven months of 2011, the railways renewed 42 locomotives worth a total of UAH 155.885 million. In particular, in the period it repaired 25 ChS2 electric locomotives, two VL11M electric locomotives, seven VL8 electric locomotives, six ChMEZ diesel locomotives, one 2TE116 diesel locomotive and one ChS7 electric locomotive.

In addition, the railways acquired two new VL11M/6 electric locomotives and received 15 VL11M electric locomotives from other railways. At the same time, during the year the railways wrote off six outdated electric locomotives, including four VL8 locomotives and two ChS2 locomotives.
