The U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt has said that all people involved in using violence against the demonstrators in Ukraine must undergo punishment.

As the ambassador told the journalists in Kyiv on Sunday, extremely
serious abuses of human rights were seen in Kyiv, especially the use of
live ammunition against demonstrators. The ambassador said all those
involved in such crimes must be put on trial.

Pyatt also expressed his sympathy to Ukrainians for the deaths of
people during the clashes between protestors and police in Kyiv
downtown.

During a meeting with Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
Oleksandr Turchynov, the ambassador said that the revolution had many
martyrs, and the best way to honor them was to ensure there was a
consolidation of democratic powers in forming a new government.

Turchynov told the US ambassador that at the time the main issue was
to form a new parliamentary majority to immediately appoint a government
of people’s confidence.

“I hope the Maidan will support this new government,” he said,
stressing that this was extremely important in current economic
conditions.

In turn, Pyatt said he favored the development of cooperation between the United States and Ukraine and its people.

He also passed a message from the U.S. Congress saying that the whole American nation supports the Ukrainian people
