The Verkhovna Rada has decided to introduce VAT on gas import operations performed by all companies except for NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy.

Some 235 deputies voted for corresponding bill No. 4645.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk said in the parliament
that the interval prior to September is foreseen so that private
importers could sign contracts for gas supply at a lower price than
Naftogaz Ukrainy.

“If there are cheaper contracts – we will not introduce, if not –
then 20% [will be introduced in VAT], and Naftogaz will be the monopoly
supplier,” he said.
