NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has said that as part of the cooperation between Ukraine and NATO, it is plans to raise the country’s defense sector to the level of the alliance and modernize the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

“It is exactly for the Ukrainian people to decide and the Ukrainian political leadership to decide how to develop its future relationship with NATO,” he said after a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission in Newport (Wales) on Thursday, Sept. 4.

At the same time, he noted that it was of utmost importance to improve Ukraine’s and NATO’s ability to work and operate together.

“This is exactly the reason why we are focusing on reforming and modernizing the Ukrainian armed forces. We will develop the security sector and raise standards to NATO level,” Rasmussen said.
