Ukraine is considering increasing the volume of gas in underground storage to 17 billion cubic meters (bcm) from the initially planned 14 bcm due to the threat of a cold winter, a senior Ukrainian official was quoted as saying on August 31.

Ukraine traditionally accumulates 17-19 bcm of mostly Russian gas in storage to cover domestic consumption and guarantee stable gas transit to Europe once the weather turns cold.
