You're reading: Russian and Finnish leaders to discuss Ukraine crisis, bilateral ties on Aug. 15

Moscow - Finnish President Sauli Niinisto is due to visit the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi on Aug. 15 at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin press service reported on Thursday, Aug. 14.

“During their negotiations, the heads of state plan to discuss the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Finland. International topics will be addressed as well, including support for a peaceful settlement of the acute internal political crisis in Ukraine and ways to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe there,” it said.

The Finnish leader’s spokesperson Katri Makkonen told the website of Finland’s national broadcaster YLE that “the situation in Ukraine would dominate the agenda” of Niinisto’s visit to Russia.
