MINSK - The Special Representative of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) at the Minsk talks, Martin Sajdik has expressed concern about a minibus explosion in Donbas.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Sajdik said that he was aware of the deadly incident, and expressed condolences to the families and friends of the killed civilians.

Sajdik added that this incident, once again, stresses the urgency of swift demining in the conflict zone in southeastern Ukraine.

In particular, it is necessary to identify and map out the demining zones, he said.

It was reported that at around 08.00 local time on Wednesday morning a Volkswagen Transporter hit an explosive device 600-700 meters from the Maryinka checkpoint.

Ukraine claims that the minibus was coming from the “grey zone” and tried to surpass vehicles on the roadside. There were five people inside the minibus. Three of them died on the spot, one sustained severe injuries and died in hospital in Kurakhove.

A criminal inquiry has been launched into the incident on the charge of “premeditated murder.”
