Senior officials in the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) and Interior Ministry should resign after the clashes that occurred outside the Verkhovna Rada on Aug. 31, Samopomich faction leader Oleh Bereziuk has said.

“Most people who gathered outside the Verkhovna Rada are worried about their country because the Constitution belongs to the people and not politicians, the parliament or the president. But there were provocateurs among those people as well. Who they were working for is a rhetorical question. But it is the duty of the law enforcement authorities to prevent such events. The SBU and the Interior Ministry were supposed to prevent it even the day before by identifying the provocateurs,” Bereziuk was quoted on the Samopomich website as saying.

The tragic events outside the Verkhovna Rada are “a result of the crisis in the executive branch and the criminal negligence of law enforcement authorities,” senior security and interior officials must resign after these events, he said.
