You're reading: SBU probes into building crimes committed by ex-prosecutor Pshonka and his son

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) carries investigation into several criminal cases, which have been opened against former high officials on organization of the mechanisms of property and money embezzlement in building and real estate sector on an especially large scale.

On Aug. 20, on the basis of the materials of the SBU, Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case against its former chief Viktor Pshonka, who together with his son, MP Artem Pshonka, and other officials concealed from prosecutor’s and other supervisory agencies building residential and non-residential premises in Kyiv by the UKOGROUP without authorized documents in order to get illegal benefit.

As the SBU press center said, the case was opened under Part 2, Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of power or office, which led to grave consequences).

Besides, the SBU checks involvement of Pshonka to illegal withdrawal by the officials of Kyivproekt a part of non-residential premises of the property complex under understated price that brought Hr 22.5 million of losses to the state.

The relative criminal case was opened by the SBU Main Investigative Department on July 25 under the Part 5, Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (misappropriation or takeover of the property through abuse of office on an especially large scale or by the organized group).
