You're reading: Several east Ukrainian providers resume Russian TV broadcasts

A number of television broadcast providers in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions have resumed the broadcasting of four Russian channels despite a court ban on such broadcast, Chairman of the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine Volodymyr Manzhosov said at a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Russian broadcasts were resumed by 12 out of the 118 providers in the
Donetsk region and 40 out of the 57 in the Luhansk region, his deputy
Larisa Mudrak said for her part.

In most cases providers resumed broadcasts under coercion, Mudrak
said. The National Council is investigating information on each case and
reports such facts to the Interior Ministry and prosecutors.

“Any such information needs a thorough check,” she said.

A district administrative court in Kyiv on Tuesday adjourned until
April 29 the hearing of a lawsuit filed by the National Broadcasting
Council against OOO Torsat over the ban on the broadcasting of the
Russian television channels RTR-Planeta, Rossiya-24, Channel 1 and NTV.

The court explained its decision to adjourn the hearing by the need
to allow the Russian channels’ attorneys to read the case files.
