The Ukrainian Interior Ministry reports that some members of police and security units were injured in a standoff in the center of Kyiv on Thursday, Aug. 7.

“Special unit members and policemen suffered injuries, mainly from
being hit by pavement,” the ministry said, without giving the exact
figures.

Members of the Kyiv-1 special battalion seized firearms, grenades,
knives, and Molotov cocktails from people offering resistance to police
in the central part of Kyiv, it said.

A law enforcement source told Interfax-Ukraine that four members of
the Kyiv-1 volunteer special battalion suffered serious injuries in the
Thursday events on Independence Square (Maidan).

Two people were detained in the clash, the source said.

City services started dismantling barricades on Independence Square
earlier on Thursday, Aug. 7, which angered some protesters who have stayed at a
tent city for months.
