Ukraine may receive a first tranche of financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and a host of Western countries totaling $6 billion, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov told journalists in Washington on Monday.

“We have proposed that our Western partners also take part in
providing support to Ukraine so that it can fulfill its commitments,
including settlements for gas. This is help on the part of the IMF, on
the part of the governments of the Western countries. The total under
consideration is a first tranche of $6 billion: $3 billion from the IMF
and $3 billion from Western countries. There is no such decision
anywhere yet, but that is the approach being examined at the level of
specialists,” Siluanov said on the sidelines of the G20 meeting of
finance ministers and central bankers.

“Until recently we have provided serious assistance to Ukraine: $35.4
billion over four years,” he said, adding that in order for Ukraine to
be able to uphold its commitments, it needs assistance from other
countries.
