The situation surrounding the European Union's sanctions against Russia is gradually developing toward their lifting, says Russia's Permanent Representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov.

“As concerns the so-called sanctions, the process toward the accumulation of a critical mass in favor of their cancellation is under way now,” Chizhov said in an interview for the Rossiya-24 (VGTRK) television channel on Tuesday.

“Perhaps no one can say today when this critical mass can be achieved,” he added.

Chizhov presumed that the possible extension or lifting of the sanctions would be discussed in June, including at the next European Union summit.

Russia is not maintaining and is not going to maintain dialogue on the sanctions with the EU, Chizhov said. “This is a problem they created themselves, and it’s for them to solve it,” he said.
