There will be no military parade in Kyiv on the Day of Independence of Ukraine., August 24, a source in the Defense Ministry has told Interfax-Ukraine.

An unnamed source told Interfax-Ukraine on Aug. 5 that there are no plans for a military parade Independence but said there will be military brass bands and guard of honor on the central street of the capital on August 24.

As reported, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych signed a decree to approve the composition of the organizational committee for preparations and celebrations of the 19th anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine.

In 2009, a military parade was held in Kyiv on occasion of the 18th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.

Obkom.net.ua on Aug. 4 also quoted a source saying there would be no parade.
