You're reading: Stainless steel production in the world 10.6 percent up in first half of 2014

The International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) has released figures for first half of 2014 showing that stainless steel melt shop production increased by 10.6 percent year-on-year to 20.9 million tonnes.

According to the document, production increased in all regions except for Central and Eastern Europe.

In Asia (without China) stainless steel melt shop production grew by 3 percent, to 4.45 million tonnes, while China along increased production by 16.7 percent, to 10.687 million tonnes. In Western Europe and Africa stainless steel melt shop production rose by 4 percent, to 4.273 million tonnes.

The Americas increased production by 16 percent, to 1.386 million tonnes. Central and Eastern Europe cut production by 5.4 percent, to 143,000 tonnes.

As reported, in 2013, stainless steel melt shop production increased by 7.8 percent compared to 2012, to 38.13 million tonnes. Over the period in Asia (without China) stainless steel melt shop production grew by 0.8 percent, to 8.788 million tonnes, while China boosted production by 18 percent, to 18.984 million tonnes.

In Western Europe and Africa stainless steel melt shop production rose by 4.3 percent, to 7.496 million tonnes. The Americas increased production by 3.6 percent, to 2.454 million tonnes. Central and Eastern Europe increased production by 13.6 percent, to 408,000 tonnes

According to ISSF, Ukraine in 2013 cut stainless steel melt shop production by 5.1 percent compared to 2012, to 112,000 tonnes and Russia boosted it by 35.7 percent, to 152,000 tonnes.
