The State Aviation Service of Ukraine is studying how to adopt European aviation laws in Ukraine to join the EU Open Skies Treaty, First Deputy Head of the State Aviation Service, Oleksandr Hrechko said at a roundtable entitled "Commercial Aviation: International Experience and Situation in Ukraine" in Kyiv on Wednesday.

He said that Ukraine has to adopt 137 European requirements to open skies, and the service is moving towards it gradually.

Hrechko also said that Ukrainian aviation market operators are not
showing particular interest in the process, and it takes a lot of effort
to introduce new laws.

As reported, referring to President of Ukraine International Airlines
(UIA, Kyiv) Yuriy Miroshnykov, that Ukraine’s accession to the common
aviation space of the European Union will not have the expected effect,
as the Ukrainian market is not yet prepared, living standards are still
low, and current barriers to travel have not yet been removed.

He said that the accession to the common aviation space is an instrument that is useful when applied under certain conditions.

In this regard, according to Miroshnykov, it’s not worth trying to
apply the “open sky” where it is premature, as infrastructure elements,
elements of the economy, consumer demand, and the preconditions for
passenger traffic are not ready.

He said that one of the major problems of entering the common aviation space is the low consumer demand among the population.
