You're reading: State Penitentiary Service to bring Lutsenko for court hearing in Kyiv on Nov. 20

The State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine is planning to bring former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko from prison to Kyiv Court of Appeals on Tuesday, Nov. 20, Assistant Head of the State Penitentiary Service Ihor Andrushko has said. 

“We’ve applied for the prisoner to be sent. The convoy has been notified. We’re planning to deliver [Lutsenko to the court]. We will act according to the circumstances,” he told reporters on Monday.

As reported, on Feb. 27, 2012 Pechersky District Court in Kyiv found Lutsenko guilty of committing a number of abuse-of-office crimes and sentenced him to four years in prison. In addition, on Aug. 17, 2012, Pechersky District Court found the ex-minister guilty of negligence in extending the surveillance of Valentyn Davydenko, the ex-driver of former Deputy Chief of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Volodymyr Satsiuk, and sentenced him to two years in prison.

On Au. 31, 2012, the ex-minister was transferred to the Mena penal colony in Chernihiv region.

On Nov. 20, Kyiv Court of Appeals will start a hearing of Lutsenko’s appeal against the decision of Pechersky District Court of Kyiv in the second criminal case opened against the ex-minister.
