You're reading: Tax Code protest looms as opponents gather in Kyiv

Thousands of entrepreneuers from throughout Ukraine are making their way to Kyiv to protest against adoption of a new Tax Code in parliament.

Protesters began arriving in Kyiv on Nov. 15 because police nationwide have been discouraging bus drivers to take them on Nov. 16, the planned day of the protest, wire agencies and newspapers reported.

"All drivers have been warned that they can be stopped and denied entry to the capital," Elena Varnakova, head of the Chernihiv Union of Entrepreneurs, told the Kyiv-based Segodnya daily newspaper on Nov. 14. Varnakova said she expects 2,000 people from Chernihiv to make it to Kyiv for the rally.
