Ukraine has vowed not to respond militarily to Russian “provocation”, as Crimea slipped further from the control of Kyiv’s new pro-western leaders. Gunmen have seized key buildings and armoured vehicles are moving freely around Crimea, where most of the 2 million population are ethnic-Russians, in what Ukraine’s acting president Oleksandr Turchynov called “naked aggression” by Moscow against its neighbour.
