You're reading: Tigipko calls for reduction in number of illegal workers in Ukraine

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Social Policy Minister Sergiy Tigipko has estimated the number of illegal workers in Ukraine at four million people.

“How many people are working illegally in our country? The figure reported by the International Labor Organization is about four million people,” he said at an international conference “New Industrialization: Employment and Decent Working Conditions” in Kyiv on Tuesday.

In this regard, he said that a task for the authorities was to take steps to ensure that employers can legalize their employees.

Tigipko said that the number of Ukrainians working abroad was more than three million people.

“The number of people who went abroad and left their families and Ukraine is at least three million people,” he said.

He said he was confident that people could be returned from abroad, first and foremost, by increasing labor market flexibility.
