Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko was unconscious for over two hours in the Kachanivska penal colony (Kharkiv), after she was given unknown medicines, according to the Batkivschyna Party.

"Yulia Volodymyrivna [Tymoshenko] fell unconscious immediately after taking the drugs, although she had no prerequisites for this. She was actually in a state of unconsciousness for more than two hours," the party’s first deputy head, Oleksandr Turchynov, said at a press conference on Tuesday.

He added that Tymoshenko had been given drugs to treat an acute viral infection.

Turchynov said that Tymoshenko’s defense lawyers were unable to visit her during New Year and the Orthodox Christmas holidays.

But now, he said, there is information about her health, which was disclosed by defense lawyer Serhiy Vlasenko, who recently visited the former prime minister in prison.

In particular, Vlasenko said that Tymoshenko fell unconscious at about 22.30 on Jan. 6 after taking medicines to treat an acute viral infection.

After that, according to Vlasenko, the ex-premier’s cellmate tried to call for help for 20 minutes by knocking on the door.

Turchynov added that according to Vlasenko, it was only after 20 minutes that the cell door opened and prison guards called doctors, who were managed to "bring Yulia Volodymyrivna from a critical state" just after midnight.

He added that all this time, the former prime minister had low blood pressure – 60/40 and that this was the reason that on Jan. 7, Health Ministry doctors conducted a clinical examination of Tymoshenko and reported her stable condition.

Turchynov linked these events to an attempt "by the Ukrainian leadership to destroy Tymoshenko."
