Kherson - Director of Turkish Airlines' representative office in Kherson region Yakup Gül suggests considering the liberalization of security procedures at checkpoints on the administrative border between Kherson region and Crimea for passengers heading from Kherson (Ukraine) to Istanbul (Turkey).

“Such advantages would help attract more passengers from Crimea,” he said at a meeting with adviser to the Kherson governor Ruslan Panchyshyn on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

It was noted at the meeting that active work is under way to encourage passengers from the Ukrainian cities of Kirovohrad and Mykolaiv to travel by Turkish Airlines from Kherson to Istanbul.

The sides also touched upon the development of Kherson Airport’s infrastructure, in particular, measures to improve transportation of passengers to Kherson.

“Our airport should be at least of the same level as the one in Lviv or Odesa. To achieve this, we need to take a consistent approach to the development of its infrastructure,” Panchyshyn said.

As was reported, Turkish Airlines on Oct. 15, 2014, launched the Kherson-Istanbul flights four times a week: on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The lowest fare of a two-way trip from Kherson to Istanbul is Hr 2,400.

Before the annexation of Crimea by Russia, Turkish Airlines carried out flights to Istanbul from Simferopol.

Kherson Airport opened in April 2013 after renovation. Its acceptance rate is 400 passengers per hour.
