Ukrainian citizens believe that the corruption problem, in general, is the most pressing in the country (94.4 percent of respondents), according to a poll conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of sociology (KIIS) in coordination with Lake Research Partners and Karakoyun Strategies.

According to the poll published at a press conference in Kyiv on Jan.27, almost two-thirds of respondents encountered corruption in 2015, and each fifth almost every month.

The study showed that 85.5 percent of adults in Ukraine believe that corruption in Ukrainian society is excessively prevalent. Only 1.8 percent of respondents said that corruption is slightly spread or there is no corruption at all.

Some 40.7 percent respondents said that all main areas and institutions of Ukraine are corrupted. In particular, the most corrupted are the State Auto Inspection and courts (66 percent of respondents), the police (without State Auto Inspection), Prosecutor General’s Office and healthcare system which are followed by public administration.

Ukrainians said that high-ranking officials are responsible for a fight against corruption. Among them are the Ukrainian president (60.6 percent), parliament (41.7 percent) and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (37.7 percent).

Only 14 percent of respondents see positive changes in corruption levels.

According to the poll, local authorities (13.2 percent) and the president (12.3 percent) show the largest efforts to combat corruption. The most effective are mass media in fighting corruption (27 percent) and NGOs (28 percent).

The poll was conducted in July-October 2015. The multistage random sample with quota selection at the last stage was used.
