Serhiy Vlasenko, a defense lawyer for former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, has announced a statement by his client in connection with the vote on the law on the principles of the state language policy.

“The shameful voting in the Verkhovna Rada on July 3 for the
so-called language bill showed that Yanukovych has declared war on and
independent Ukraine as such – not only the opposition and certain
democratic values. He has challenged the whole nation. The vote was the
same as they are. They, like thieves and tricksters, pushed this
question through parliament, under rules that would be appropriate in
gambling hall,” Tymoshenko said in a statement.

According to Tymoshenko, the law adopted on July 3 is “a law on the
temporary right of villains to mock,” rather than a language law.

“In the last two years, they have created an effective vertical of
cave ethics and murderous primitivism – the vertical that will bury them
under their rubble, if we do not retreat this time. Ukraine has already
beaten enemies such as Yanukovych. It has passed such tests as the test
of the Regions Party. They can throw civil society and the opposition
behind bars, but it is impossible to imprison the Ukrainian language and
culture. The first decision the opposition has to take in a new
parliament is to cancel all of the criminal stupid decisions that they
took in the parliament that was temporarily theirs,” Vlasenko said,
reading Tymoshenko’s statement.
