You're reading: Tymoshenko: US, Britain guarantors of peace in Ukraine

Batkivschyna Party leader and former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has urged the West not to leave Ukraine one-on-one with Russia.

“We have the Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances under which British and American military forces are the guarantors of peace in our country. The agreement should prevent a war from happening. The negotiations should not be between Ukraine and Russia. World leaders should understand that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine concerns the entire world,” Tymoshenko said in an interview with the Newsweek magazine, cited on her personal Web site.

Tymoshenko urged the Ukrainian people to stay calm and not to yield to provocation. “Our main weapon is confidence. We are on our own land. No military has any right to cross our borders. Russia is pushing us to respond and meet aggression with aggression. We would lose immediately, just like Georgia did in 2008,” she said.

Tymoshenko flew to Germany recently to undergo medical treatment, earlier reports said.
