The family of Yulia Tymoshenko are not going to compensate the state company Naftogaz Ukrainy for the losses that a court compelled the ex-prime minister to cover.

The court ruling compelling the ex-prime minister to compensate Naftogaz for the alleged losses is illegal and therefore cannot be complied with, said Tymoshenko’s daughter Yevhenia.

"We neither have nor ever had such financial resources. It is not possible. This is what the regime wants, but it does not mean it will be so," she said in an interview with the TVi television channel, according to Tymoshenko’s website.

On October 11, 2011, the Pechersky District Court in Kyiv sentenced Tymoshenko to seven years of imprisonment and compelled her to pay UAH 1.5 billion to Naftogaz Ukrainy for the losses, which the court said were incurred through the 2009 gas contracts with Russia.
