Yevheniya Tymoshenko, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko's daughter, was barred from visiting her mother at the Kachanivska correctional facility in Kharkiv, where she is serving her prison term.

"I arrived at the penitentiary at 0900 to visit my mom. I was not admitted, even though I had a court decision. As I am a [public] attorney, I could enter the Lukyanivska detention facility every day. But today I was not admitted for some reason and was told to go back to Kyiv to obtain permission from an investigator," Tymoshenko told journalists outside the penitentiary on Tuesday.

Yevheniya Tymoshenko said she would go to Kyiv and meet with the investigator, who is not responding to telephone calls.

She said she doubted that she could visit Yulia Tymoshenko before January 10.

"I do not know her state and her conditions. I could not wish my mom a happy New Year and see how she feels. What is going on is absolute arbitrariness and lawlessness," she said.
