You're reading: Tymoshenko’s supporters set up tents near penal colony in Kharkiv

Supporters of former Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko have set up two campaign tents of the Batkivschyna Party outside Kachanivska penal colony in Kharkiv, where the former prime minister is currently being held.

Chairman of the district organization of the Batkivschyna All-Ukrainian Union branch in Kharkiv Oleksandr Shtepko said that the tents will be open daily from 0800 until 2000 and will distribute propaganda materials.

In addition, the tents will collect letters and telegrams in support of Tymoshenko.

Tymoshenko was placed in Kyiv’s remand center on August 5, 2011.

On October 11, she was sentenced to seven years in prison for exceeding her authority when signing the gas deals with Russia in 2009.

Tymoshenko was transferred to Kachanivska Penal Colony No. 54 in Kharkiv on December 30.
