Ukraine has reduced exports of electricity to Belarus by 50 percent and limited supplies to Crimea due to an imbalance in the electrical power system, Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Prodan said at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

“We introduced several measures to balance the work of the Ukrainian electrical power system. We reduced exports to Belarus by 50 percent, and also decreased supplies to the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea,” he said.

The minister said that the situation has now begun to improve – the shortage of coal for thermal power plants is being offset by imports, and by November it is planned to enter a fully balanced mode of work for the energy system.
