You're reading: Ukraine expects clearer security criteria from talks on Donbas, mere reports on violations won’t do – Foreign Ministry

At the talks on the settlement of the situation in Donbas, the Ukrainian side insists on a clear definition of the criteria for the provision of security, Director of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry policy and communications department Oleksiy Makeyev has said.

“We have come to a conclusion that security has to be measurable,” Makeyev said at a round table in Kyiv on Feb. 11.

He noted that during the negotiations Kyiv said that parameters of the cease-fire violations were accurately registered.

“Every day around 40-50 attacks are carried out… Security has to be an absolutely measurable indicator and we expect more from the OSCE than just putting on record that shots were heard somewhere,” Makeyev said.

In his words, it was also necessary to clearly define the notions of security and guaranteed access for the OSCE to the territory, etc. “These accurately measured elements must form the grounds for the assessment of the overall security,” the diplomat said.
