Ukraine has banned the imports of animals susceptible to African swine fever (ASF), products, raw materials and reproductive materials made of them from the Russian Federation due to the fact that meat products infected with the virus of ASF were detected in the cities of Bryansk, Orenburg and Kursk region (all based in Russia).

“The decision of the chief state inspector of veterinary medicine in
Ukraine dated 21.07.2014 (No. 15-9-1-23/19945) banned the imports of
animals susceptible to ASF, products, raw materials and reproductive
materials from them, feed and feed additives from the Russian Federation
to Ukraine,” the press service of Ukraine’s Ministry of Agricultural
Policy and Food said.

The ministry noted that the information on revealing meat products
with ASF in the Russian cities was officially spread by Rosselkhoznadzor
and came from “official statements through diplomatic channels.”

Deputy head of the authority Vitaliy Bashinsky told Interfax-Ukraine
that earlier the ban on pork imports was valid for 12 Russian regions,
now it is applied to the whole territory of the Russian Federation in
connection with new outbreaks of ASF.
