Ukraine is in active negotiations on the implementation of investment projects for the rehabilitation of irrigation systems in the south of the country, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"Now we see practical interest from the leading countries in irrigative agriculture. Ukraine is in active talks with foreign partners on the terms of the realization of investment projects to restore irrigation systems in the south of the country," Yanukovych said at the International Investment Forum in Kirovohrad on Thursday.

“We believe that our state has unique opportunities to invest in the sector of agricultural production,” the head of state said, adding that this, in particular, concerns agricultural engineering and the processing of agricultural products.

He also described as promising the development of organic agriculture as a production system that promotes the improvement of soil, ecosystems and people.

The president noted that in September 2013 the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on the production and turnover of organic agricultural products and raw materials.

“Organic produce is potentially more competitive, Ukraine has a unique opportunity to take one of the leading positions among the manufacturers of these products,” said Yanukovych.
