NATO and Ukraine will hold a joint assessment of the threats and security measures for the finals of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship.

"Expert consultations will be held on Euro 2012, and the specific parameters [of cooperation] will then be defined. A joint assessment of threats and possible security measures will be conducted during the first stage of the consultations," Head of Ukraine’s Mission to NATO Ihor Dolhov told Ukrainian journalists in Brussels on Tuesday.

According to Dolhov, several potential areas for cooperation have been outlined: security during mass events, as well as the protection and control of the situation in Ukraine’s airspace.

However, the ambassador didn’t name the specific timeframes for such consultations between Ukraine and the alliance.

Earlier, NATO provided security during the 2004 Olympics in Athens and the NATO summit in Riga in 2005. A number of alliance member-states, including Canada, Germany and Britain, also have relevant experience.
