The European Union will provide over EUR 1.2 million for the introduction of the Twinning project, which is designed to assist Ukraine in bringing Ukrainian law in the biosecurity area to European Union standards, reads a press release of the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry.

The press release says that the project will be realized within 21
months, with the participation of a consortium that will consist of
Germany, France, Latvia and Lithuania.

The press service said that under the project, the State Veterinary
and Biosecurity Service would be provided with aid in designing and
introducing legal and technical acts.

“It is planned to further increase the volume of plants and crops
from Ukraine on the EU market, so we pin hopes on the Twinning project,
thanks to which we’ll be able to harmonize the requirements of the
domestic biosecurity laws with European ones,” the press service said,
citing First Deputy Head of the State Veterinary and Biosecurity Service
Vadym Symonov.

The Parliamentary State Secretary at Germany’s Federal Ministry of
Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, Gerd Muller, cited in the
press release, said that the harmonization of the Ukrainian law system
with European requirements and standards will allow the expansion of the
presence of the country’s products on foreign markets, and boost trade.

“Ukraine’s export potential would considerably strengthen if national
laws were brought up to European standards. The Twinning project, which
will last for almost two years, is to help in this, and assist in
strengthening the partnership of Ukraine and Germany,” he said.
