You're reading: Ukraine ups cheese imports by 71 percent in January

Ukraine in January 2013 imported 1,450 tonnes of cheese, which is 71% up on January 2012, according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine.

According to the service, in monetary terms cheese imports soared by 1.8 times, to $8.14 million.

Ukraine in 2012 reduced cheese exports by 16.4 percent, to 4,100 tonnes. The country exported cheese worth $23.67 million, while in January 2013 the figure was $28.19 million.

According to the service, butter imports from Ukraine in 2012 fell by 18.8 percent and amounted to 958 tonnes. In monetary terms the country imported butter worth $3.91 million, which is 30.4 percent down on 2011.

At the same time, butter exports to Ukraine in January 2013 came to 66 tonnes. The country exported butter worth a total of $283,000, while in January 2012 the figure was 53 tonnes worth $255,000.

As reported, Ukraine in 2012 exported 67,670 tonnes of cheese, which is 15.7 percent down on 2011. Ukraine in 2012 reduced cheese imports by 28.5 percent, to 17,000 tonnes.

Butter exports from Ukraine in 2012 fell by three times and amounted to 679 tonnes, while butter imports to Ukraine last year grew by 81.2 percent, to 8,980 tonnes.
