You're reading: Ukraine ups electricity output 2.6% in 10 months

Ukraine's integrated power grids raised electricity generation by 2.6% year-over-year in January-October 2012, to 161.9 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), an Energy and Coal Ministry source told Interfax-Ukraine.

The combined heat and power plants (CHP) managed by the ministry increased electricity output by 6.7%, to 73.108 billion kWh, nuclear power plants reduced it by 0.1%, to 73.1 billion kWh, municipally owned heat stations and district power stations reduced it by 3.7%, to 6.3 billion kWh, and hydropower plants cut output by 7.2%, to 8.753 billion kWh.

The generation of electricity from non-traditional sources (wind farms, solar power plants, biomass) grew by 15.4 times, to 529.7 million kWh.

Nuclear plants produced 45.2% and CHP plants 45.2% of Ukraine’s electricity. Non-traditional forms accounted for 0.3%, hydropower plants for 5.4% and municipally owned heat stations and district power stations for 3.9%.

Heat output fell by 23.3% over the ten months, 1.515 billion Gcal.

Overall electricity output decreased by 4.4% in October 2012 alone from October 2011, to 15.981 billion kWh.
