Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Yuriy Serheyev has said that the statements by Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on possible strikes on Ukraine are provocative.

“The statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov sounds like another provocation – he talked of possible strikes on Ukraine,” Serheyev said at the meeting of UN Security Council on July 18 night.

According to him, based on the latest data as of July 14, Russia has massed almost 40,000 soldiers on the Ukrainian border, with 18,000 men also located in Transnistria, and 21,000 more in occupied Crimea.

“These actions by Russia contradict the Geneva agreement dated April 17 and the Berlin declaration date June 2,” Ukrainian diplomat said.

According to him, Ukraine demands that Russia stop provocations on the border and stop threatening the security of Ukraine and the world.

On Friday, during the interview with Russia 24 TV Channel, Lavrov said that firing points, from which Russian territory had been shot at, had to be locally destroyed, if the shootings continued intentionally.

“We have already warned that if it goes on, we will take the necessary measures. But at least, if it’s clear that it has been done intentionally, I’m sure that we need to suppress such a point at once,” Lavrov said.
