You're reading: Ukraine’s Security Service calls on participants in Mukacheve conflict to lay down weapons

The Ukrainian Security Service is calling on participants in the military conflict in Mukacheve, Zakarpattia oblast, to surrender and promises an objective investigation, threatening to take measures envisaged by the legislation of they do not comply, Ukrainian Security Service spokeswoman Olena Hitlianska told Interfax-Ukraine.

“The Ukrainian Security Service is calling on everyone who has taken weapons to lay down their weapons and surrender. We, for our part, promise to conduct an objective investigation. Otherwise we will take drastic measures within our powers and the current legislation to resolve this situation,” she told Interfax-Ukraine on Saturday afternoon.

Hitlianska added that a deputy head of the Ukrainian Security Service has now left for the site and a coordination group composed of representatives of several defense and security structures has been created.

“To officials led by a deputy head of the Ukrainian Security Service and a special task force have left for the scene. A coordination group comprising representatives of the National Guard and the police has been created,” she said.

Speaking about the current situation, Hitlianska said Ukrainian Security Service officials are taking measures to encircle the conflict participants.

“We are taking measures to encircle the attackers and to increase citizens’ security,” she said.
