You're reading: Ukrainian authorities ban RBC TV broadcasts

The Ukrainian national council for television and radio broadcasts has decided to ban broadcasts of Russian channel RBC TV.

“In the interests of the state’s information security, the regulatory agency has recognized the contents of the foreign program of RosBusinessConsulting TV (RBC TV) as not meeting the demands of the European convention on cross-border televisions and existing Ukrainian Legislation,” the national council press office said on Thursday, Aug. 7.

The decision was made on the basis of monitoring results, when it was registered that information materials containing violations of the Ukrainian law on information article 2 part 1 and article 28, the Ukrainian law on television and radio broadcasts article 6 part 2, and European convention on cross-border television article 7 part 1, the national council said.

“Via mass media outlets and national council representatives, the watchdog warns the program service providers on the necessity to exclude this Russian broadcaster from Ukrainian cable networks,” the press office said.
