Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Olefirov discussed the situation in his country with U.S. high-ranking officials during his visit to the U.S. on Jan. 27-29.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Olefirov said he had met with White House officials and members of Congress while visiting Washington. “The American side pointed to the need to comprehensively investigate any manifestations of violence, and at the same time I clearly heard the condemnation of extremist manifestations by any radical forces,” he said.

The U.S. officials made it clear that a dialogue is important for settling the situation in Ukraine, ruling out violence, and investigating all such cases, he said.

Asked by journalists whether his conversations concerned sanctions, Olefirov replied, “There was not a single word about sanctions in conversations with my counterparts.”

“There was no conversation with me about any financial or political sanctions anywhere, be it with the State Department or the White House,” he stressed.
