You're reading: Ukrainian Facebook moderated from Ireland not Russia, Ukrainian office may open in time – Zuckerberg

There is no Facebook office in Russia and the Ukrainian segment is moderated from the company's European headquarters in Dublin by people who speak the language in which a message is made, Facebook head Mark Zuckerberg said during a Q&A session on May 14 evening.

There were questions on whether messages written by Ukrainians are moderated by Russians at a time when the two countries are in conflict. This is not true, as there is no Russian office and this segment of the network is moderated from Dublin by people who know the language, Zuckerberg said.

He also replied to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s request to open a Facebook office in Ukraine. Zuckerberg said that over time this could be considered as it depends on the company’s development, in particular its software development.

The Q&A session on Thursday night started with a question on Ukraine which hit 45,000 “likes”. Users complained about Facebook accounts being unfairly blocked, probably as result of massive fake abuse reports.

Zuckerberg said that he had personally looked into the matter and discovered that several messages were deleted as they contained hate speech against other nationalities.
